Gerry Dick: Well, the Exceptional Employer Award at this year's Mira Awards goes to myCOI, and I'm pleased to be joined backstage at the Mira Awards by Kristen Nunery, the CEO of the company. Kristen, congratulations.

Kristen Nunery: Oh, thank you so much.

Gerry Dick: Yeah, this has been a number of years, several years of exciting growth, but I think an interesting element to the story is how you came up with the idea for the company in the first place. It was from personal experience, right?

Kristen Nunery: Yeah. What really drives us today is when I was in high school, our house burned down, and the type of insurance policy, we had turned into a three- year battle of the insurance carrier before the claim was paid out. And just a lot of challenges that we had to go through because of that scenario. And what we do today is protect people from living through the heartache, the disruption, the challenges that can come from an uninsured or underinsured claim, or just even that legal battle. We just do it in the business world. So we support a lot of general contractors, property managers, and other companies to make sure their third parties have the insurance they need.

Gerry Dick: So give us an example, because in the construction industry, property management sectors, there are so many regulations, compliances, things that are involved in day- to- day business, and that's what you address, right?

Kristen Nunery: Yeah, we do. We do. So it's really significant. You are out on a job site and you have a lot of subcontractors there doing work. That's pretty dangerous work and accidents will happen. That's just part of it. And so we're there to help protect everybody, help protect the general contractor, protect the subcontractors, all their employees so that when an accident happens, insurance really does pick up that claim.

Gerry Dick: Growth. This idea has caught on to be sure, talk about growth because you are not just in Indiana, you've expanded to multiple states, so talk a little bit about that.

Kristen Nunery: Yeah, yeah. Our customer base is nationwide and we've actually grown, our employees are now... we're in about 13 states and about 100 employees now, and grown a lot over the years, and it's been really exciting to see that happen and take place. And really, we're just the beginning. The industry has a lot of opportunity ahead that we're very convicted and excited about.

Gerry Dick: Talk about growing your company, growing a technology company in Indiana, and your feelings on that.

Kristen Nunery: Yeah, I love Indianapolis. It's such a good community to be in. There's so much support, and even just from when we started the business and back 12 years ago to where it is today, it really is incredible how much has happened, the foundation that's here, and how much support is here for tech companies to get off the ground and grow. And that's been really significant for us. We've had incredible investors and just friends of the company that have helped us get to where we are today.

Gerry Dick: I know you touched on a moment ago, but as you look to the future, you're pretty bullish. You see some real opportunities for growth.

Kristen Nunery: Yeah, we absolutely do. Yes. You know what we do at really every company, mid market and up and just about every industry needs our help and support, and we're seeing a lot of adoption for what we provide, and it's exciting to watch, and we've got some fun years ahead of us.
